This beautifully preserved 19th-century Dutch doofpot (ember bucket) is an exceptional example of traditional European hearthside utility. Handcrafted from warm, glowing copper, the bucket features a classic conical shape designed for maximum stability hearthe fireplace. It is accented with a heavy brass lid topped with an elegant finial, three sturdy brass paw feet, and a substantial swing handle for easy carrying. History: Before the convenience of modern matches or heating, maintaining a fire was hard work. At the end of the evening, rather than letting the expensive firewood burn completely to ash, homeowners would place the hot embers inside. By firmly sealing the lid, oxygen was cut off, safely extinguishing the coals. The next morning, the preserved charcoal could be easily relit, saving time and fuel. Today it serves as a stunning decorative accent piece, perfect for bringing historical charm and warmth to a fireplace.
